Dark sludge
Dark sludge
Dark sludge
This is the kind of coffee grandpa Bud loved: Dark, hints of leather and spices, shitloads of caffeine and cheap. Dark sludge is the ultimate "let me impress you with my black coffee" party trick. Don't get me wrong; this brew is awesome! It just happens to fall into that "love it or hate it" kind of coffee.
If you've been to Vietnam and drank their coffee, you will recognize this taste instantly. It will take you back to the warm beaches of Vietnam. Only difference here is that we don't drown our beans in chocolate sauce after roasting.
Technically this not an espresso roast, but almost tastes like coffee Americano when brewed. It's actually a city roast, darker than medium roast but not so dark that the bean characteristics disappear.
Weight: 250g
Roast: Vietnamese Roast
Best use: Filter coffee, over a fire, or to start your car with (please don't try and start your car with The Sludge)

The Region
Despite the social instability that has been present for decades in eastern Congo, the Ruzizi plain is an area with strong economic potential. It shelters the borders of three countries of the Great Lakes Region: the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), Rwanda and Burundi. It is located between Lake Kivu in the North and Lake Tanganyika in the South. These two lakes are connected by the Ruzizi river, which offers a good water resource for agricultural activities and for feeding.
