The Magic of Induction Heating

The most green and efficient way to generate heat from electricity is through induction, and the R2 series features our most powerful — and precise — induction modules yet.

Our resident flamethrower, the Bullet R2 Pro provides 14 progressive power steps up to 2300 watts, while the Bullet R2 offers 10 steps up to 1700 watts, and the classic Bullet R1 offers 9 steps up to 1550 watts.

All three Bullet models deliver heat with remarkable precision, for repeatable results. The Bullet R1’s induction board is accurate up to +/-2%, while the Bullet R2 and R2 Pro are even more precise, with only a +/- 0.5% margin of error.

Crucially, thanks to the responsiveness of induction heating, any power adjustment made during a roast will not only be accurate, but also speedy — it’s a feeling akin to roasting with gas. This is because, unlike other electric coffee roasters, there are no heating elements. Instead, induction creates heat directly within the drum itself.

In sum, induction is the reason why:

  • Bullets are more responsive to mid-roast adjustments than other electric roasters.

  • Bullets are the smallest 1 – 1.2kg capacity roasters in the world.

In order to reach their full potential, some green beans demand meticulous attention to detail and precise control over the roasting process.

This is why specialty coffee professionals around the world trust the Bullet to roast their most delicate beans.

All Bullet models feature the same basic comprehensive controls over your roasts, with 12 fan speeds, 9 drum speeds, and a drum preheat temperature range from 160°C to 310°C, adjustable in 5° increments.

With so much control over every facet the of the roasting process, you can adopt any roasting approach you like — from ultra-fast and light Nordic style roasts, or take-it-slow “soak” techniques to avoid defects in sensitive beans — really the only limits are your imagination.

IBTS: The best way to measure bean temperature

Available for all Bullet models, the infrared bean temperature sensor (IBTS) is our patented solution one of the most basic problems confronting roasters: bad bean temperature data.
 
Roasting professionals understand that traditional bean temperature probes found in other roasters are influenced by external variables that have nothing to do with the actual temperature of the beans they are made to measure — bean probe types and tolerances, probe placement, and even varying batch size can have dramatic impacts on their readings.
 
So how does one adopt a data-driven approach to roasting when the most basic data point in coffee roasting — bean temperature — can’t be trusted? How do you compare two different profiles with first crack temperatures that vary by as much as 20 degrees Celsius?
 
The answer is: You can’t.
 
That’s why we sidestep the limitations of bean probes altogether by providing a new way to measure the temperature of the beans in the drum: infrared sensors. With the IBTS, you will know exactly at which temperature your beans will reach first crack, no matter the batch size, for consistent repeatability.  
 
Better sensors produce better data — the kind you can actually learn from.

FlowSense*: Dynamic Airflow Control

Essential for developing flavors and ensuring consistent results, airflow control in our roasters has never been easier thanks to our latest technological innovation,  FlowSense.

FlowSense is a dynamic system that directly measures the actual airflow within the drum, and adjusts the roaster’s fan RPM automatically to maintain airflow stability, regardless of other variables that may affect it.

That means that even if your chaff filter gets clogged and airflow within the drum is restricted, FlowSense will bump up the fan RPM to ensure your roasts are unaffected while triggering the Chaff Filter Clean Alert, to let you know your Bullet needs some personal attention.

Quick Clean Maintenance* and Chaff Filter Clean Alert*

  • QuickClean Maintenance: All roasters require routine maintenance, and while it’s pretty easy to keep the classic Bullet R1 clean, it’s much easier with the Bullet R2 and Bullet R2 Pro, thanks to a complete under the hood redesign of the control panel. Fewer screws, more magnets, easier access.
  • Chaff Filter Clean Alert: Roasting with a clogged chaff filter not only leads to off notes and inconsistent roasts, it will void your warranty and potentially damage your machine. The Bullet R2 and Bullet R2 Pro will let you know when your airflow is obstructed with a notification on the control panel, so that you can keep it clean.
